As with many businesses, Flying Machine started as a dream which slowly became a reality. Research into possibilities and opportunities filled every spare waking moment. A home office quickly filled with bicycles.

Founder & Design Director, Matthew Andrew recognised a vacant niche in the bicycle market: production of well-designed, good looking bicycles that were not pitched at the ‘sportsperson’ market. The business name Sexy Bicycles was registered in June 2008.

A new product line, Base Urban, was designed in 2010 and released in 2011. Base Urban is a belt driven, urban specific range of bicycles, which fits the high quality ethos of Flying Machine.

Special Projects is the most recently established business unit. Special Projects designs and supplies bicycles for a diverse range of business purposes, such as holiday resorts, bike hire, promotions & auctions, advertising, staff bonuses, client membership rewards, industrial and government purposes, merchandising and hotel guest facilities.

In 2011, the business was renamed Flying Machine: Bicycle Design Studio to allow Sexy Bicycles, Base Urban and Special Projects to become distinctive components under the Flying Machine umbrella.
